21 Nov 11 -  BBU RETIREMENTS

The Board of the BBU has no pleasure in announcing the retirement from International racing of Simon ALLANSON, and the resignation from the Board of Bill LAURENCE.

Simon ("Ginge") Allanson made his International debut in the European Cup team at EC 2 in Geilo NOR in December 2004. Three months later he became the only British athlete ever to gain Podium finishes in the European Cup Junior Sprint & Pursuit at Gurnigel SUI. His first World Cup race was at Oberhof GER in 2007 and he has been a regular member of the World Cup relay team since, as well as competing in two Summer Biathlon World Championships, five European Championships and three World Championships.

He has won a couple of British National titles and has been the Athletes' Rep on the BBU Board for almost 2 years. He will be racing for his Regiment (40 Regt RA) this winter and, as the selection door is never closed (except when an athlete is "sacked"!), "Never say Never".

Bill ("Sports") Laurence has been a Biathlon competitor and winter sports fanatic for some 20 years. From early days in the Allgau and Urnerboden during the winter of 1981-2 with 3 RTR he transferred to the Parachute Regiment, where he is still remembered for organising an unofficial AWSA 50 ski-jumping championships in Norway. He was secretary of the RAC Championships (although by then a Para) in Les Saisies FRA and has been a frequent visitor to the British Championships and World Cup VIP tents over the years. He was a member of the IBU Legal Disputes Panal and has served as a BBU Board Member since January 2005, but since leaving the Army has found it increasingly difficult to devote the time he would wish to the "British Biathlon Family".

We thank both of them for their support and enthusiasm, and hope to see them around "on the circuit" for years to come.

21 Nov 11 -  GBR SELECTION RACES

15 Nov 11 -  IBU CUP 1 MOVES TO ÖSTERSUND

Late last night (Monday) it was announced that IBU Cup 1, scheduled for Idre SWE 26 & 27 Nov, will switch to Östersund SWE. It has simply not been possible to start making enough snow in the inclement weather in southern Sweden. Fingers crossed then for IBU Cup1  & World Cup 1 in Östersund, albeit the weather is not that much colder in the north of Sweden!

13 Nov 11 -  IBU GUIDE 2011- 2012
The IBU Guide, which contains important information about the upcoming season, is now available for download on the IBU home page. The Guide, an important tool for coaches, media and officials, is full of information about athletes, events, and the national federations. It also contains the most important rule changes as decided by the IBU Executive Board.

The Guide is an invaluable 500+ page document. Currently only available digitally (to download click the Photo), but will be on sale through the IBU shortly. It could take a few minutes to download, but is well worth it!

13 Nov 11 -  IBU AT FORUM NORDICUM

The IBU made a presentation on 12 Oct in Ramsau, Austria at Forum Nordicum, the annual meeting of sports journalists, who cover the Nordic disciplines.
