sport of Biathlon.
The BBU was incorporated on 23 October 1996 and
selects the GBR teams at all levels.

BRITISH CHAMPIONSHIPS 2012
The British Chapionships 2012 have started, with
the first race 15km Classical XC starting on Saturday 21
Jan. We have x211 athletes registered to compete in these
2012 Championships. The results for all races will be
available to view on our web site here.

Methods has been published. For more details and list of key
changes the logo. |

We
emphasise the fact that
"ignorance is not an excuse".
It is a personal matter for all
athletes, whether they are an Olympian or a novice, to be aware of the
current banned list and the issues of
drug, doping, blood and gene
testing. National Squad athletes who are unclear should arrange
through their coaches to discuss issues with their regular or sport
specific doctor. Regimental &
Club athletes should contact their RMO / GP in the first instance. |

- RUSSIAN ROULETTE - OR ANOTHER DAY AT THE RBU
The Russian Biathlon
Union has given us a number of good stories in recent
years...
In 2007 RBU President Alexander Tikhonov was
jailed for 3 years for an attempted murder, but then
pardoned by Russian President Vladimir
Putin ...
And then a year later Tikhonov was ousted
as RBU President by Mikhail Prokhorov, Russia's 3rd richest
man and owner of basketball's New Jersey Nets ...
During the middle of a disastrous Women's Relay at their
home World Championships in Khanty-Manysisk the women's
coach was sacked. (Later replaced by Wolfgang Pichler -
cousin of our own Walter - and Russian results are on the
way up again.) ...
This month Prokhorov announced
that he will stand as a candidate, against Putin, in the
2013 Presidential Election; (that is president of Russia -
not just the RBU). It is rather akin to our own Chairman,
André Oszmann deciding to run against David Cameron in the
next UK General Election - well you heard it here first!

- BBU OFFICE "ON THE ROAD"
The BBU Office goes
mobile and departs from the UK on 31 Dec 11, for some 10
weeks; well somebody has to work in the Alps!
There
are unlikely to be any updates before approx. 15 Jan, but
all WC 4 & 5 and IBU Cup 4 & 5 results are on
www.biathlonworld.com
and of course Eurosport will show most races

- IRVINE IN INNSBRUCK FOR YOUTH
OLYMPICS
Many congratulations to
17 year old Calum IRVINE of Cairngorm Biathlon & Nordic SC
who has been selected to represent GBR in Biathlon in the
inaugural Youth Winter Olympic Games 13 - 22 Jan 12.
Joining him in Innsbruck but in Cross Country, will be
club mate Scott DIXON and Sarah HALE from Korsnas IF SK in
Finland.
IRVINE & DIXON are both expected to compete
in the Biathlon World Youth & Junior Championships in
Kontiolahti FIN 20 - 26 Feb 12. |

- WORLD CUP 2 & 3
Jacko oh so Close!
Another great Sprint from
Lee JACKSON in the Hochfilzen WC 3, which was re-located
from Annecy Le Grand Bornand FRA. Although finishing 55th
with 0-2 his percentage was a career best 7.1%. Just one
target missed would have been a top 40; no misses = top 25;
it will surely happen.
Fay flies with the Few
Fay POTTON made her WC
debut in WC 3 Sprint, and thus became only the second ever
RAF athlete, and their first female, to compete in World
Cup. This allowed Nerys JONES (below in the WC 2 Sprint) to
compete in the IBU Cup 3 at Obertilliach.
First for GBR
Alas, not first
place but a first in that GBR competed for the first time
in a World Cup in the Mixed Relay today at WC 3 today. After
a flying start from Amanda LIGHTFOOT we tailed off a little,
but still beat 4 other Nations. Mixed Relay Nations Cup
Points are split between the Men & Women's' NC scores.

- IBU CUP 2 & 3
It snowed just in time
for a successful IBU Cup 2 in Ridnaun ITA where Amanda
LIGHTFOOT and Adele WALKER re-qualified for WC. Fay POTTON
qualified for the first time whilst Calum IRVINE in only his
3rd race just missed qualification by a whisker.
Christian LEWIS and Jenna BEDDOE both made their
International debut and both retained IBU qualification for
Trimester 2.
Pete BEYER re-qualified for WC 2nd
Trimester at IBU 3 in Obertilliach AUT, whilst Kevin KANE
did the same at WC 3.

near to a "home" World Championships as GBR will ever have, so we are
happy to bring back our "Countdown Clock" (at the very top of this
page), which now shows just under one year to go!
