World Championships open in Oslo – GBR start on Saturday!


The IBU World Championships Biathlon started yesterday (Thursday 03 March) with an exciting and unpredictable mixed relay. The first competition saw France’s triumph with Germany and Norway in second and third. 160 male and 145 female athletes from 34 nations have arrived in Oslo, Norway. There are just 3 GBR athletes – our smallest total for many years.


GBR start in the two Sprints on Saturday – BOTH LIVE on Eurosport. Scott DIXON & Marcel LAPONDER at 10:30 GMT and Amanda LIGHTFOOT at 13:30 GMT.  Support Staff include Simon ALLANSON, Ilario MADDALIN and Eddy LOWE.  The Pursuits are on Sunday (Men 12:30 GMT; Women 14:45 GMT). Laponder qualified for the 2011 World Champs Pursuit, whilst Lightfoot has qualified in her last four World Champs …..


More than 115,000 tickets have been sold; organizers hope this number will rise to their original goal of 125,000 (still someway short of the record 200,000 sold for Ruhpolding 2012). 715 media representatives and staff will provide wall-to-wall coverage in Oslo, including 114 print press representatives, while 67 photographers will focus on the highlights through their camera lenses.
