BBU Training Camp 1: 6th – 20th May 2018, Arbroath

The BBU will run the first of a series of 4, two-week training camps designed to deliver a progressive path to selection of a GB National Squad for the 2018/19 Biathlon Season.  The first of these camps will take place at the Royal Marines base RM Condor, Arbroath, Scotland and will run from Sunday 6th May until Sunday 20th May. Subsequent camps will take place overseas at world class training locations. All training camps are open to all biathletes, civilian or military, who have an ambition to compete internationally for GB from Youth through to Senior level.

The initial camp will be fundamental to this process due to the explanation and introduction of benchmarks that will form elements of the GB selection process as well as focusing on Nordic fitness, roller-skiing technique and extensive shooting sessions.  Subsequent camps will further develop these skills on and off snow, culminating in GB selection on snow immediately following the last camp in November.  The full BBU selection policy 2018-19 will be published prior to the start of Camp 1.

We are aiming to keep the cost of Camp 1 to no more than £500 per person with the exact figure being dependent on the number of attendees. We are asking for an initial show of interest by 1st March 2018.  A firm commitment and deposit will be required by 01 April 2018. Even if you are only able to attend a portion of the camp, please get in touch so we are able to accommodate as many potential biathletes as possible.

These camps are aimed at taking promising club skiers, with competitive biathlon and/or cross-country skiing experience, and developing them into International athletes through a structured training plan that athletes need to fully commit to. Each athlete would need to have the following specific sport related equipment as a minimum, and be able to move their rifle and ammunition around Europe:

  • Roller-skis (skating and classic)
  • Snow skis (skating and classic)
  • Poles,
  • Ski boots,
  • Cycle helmet
  • Heart Rate monitor,
  • Rifle and ammunition (the BBU may be able to provide a certain amount of ammunition for training camps).

We can give help and advice on sourcing some of the above equipment if required.

Please email with any questions or to book a place.

Details and dates of further camps will follow shortly.
